This will be the first time I went into Fenway in January without needing bail money.
I’m going to shell out a couple of hundred bucks to go sit in an out door ballpark on January first, approximately 36 days before pitchers and catchers report. It’s going to be cold, possibly snowing, and there won’t be any members of the Red Sox on the field. But it’s going to be awesome.
The NHL announced yesterday that the Bruins will host the Philadelphia Flyers (who, disappointingly, don’t actually fly) in the annual Winter Classic Game at Fenway Park on January first. We all knew it for the past few months, but the official announcement was a bright spot in a week that has been so draining for Sox fans that the Globe actually has an article today about how bored we are. Everybody who will be involved in any way in the event spoke at the announcement, but the jist of the whole thing was that we have an excuse to go to the ballpark during that long off day known as the Hot Stove Season.
I love it.
Nothing doing until tomorrow night, when Clay takes the mound to improve his trade value. In Toronto. HMMMMM.
Go Sox.
Done.
